Classical crossover broadly encompasses both classical music that has become popularized and a wide variety of popular music forms performed in a classical manner or by classical artists. Scott Lawton has collaborated with leading artists in both classical and popular genres, often working as a catalyst for innovative projects which have roots in diverse traditions.

NPRJon Lord
The legendary organist of Deep Purple John Lord collaborated with Lawton and the Deutsches Filmorchester in Potsdam and Munich. The central piece of these concerts was Lord’s Concerto for Rock Band and Orchestra.
BerichtTil Brönner
Germany’s most well-known jazz musician, Trompeter Til Brönner, performed with Scott Lawton and the Landespolizeiorchester Nordrhein-Westfalen in a highly regarded charity concert in Essen.
Udo Lindenberg
The legendary Udo Lindenberg invited Scott Lawton and the Filmorchester to accompany him on a two-week tour throughout Germany. A double CD documented the final concert in Hamburg.
Terence Blanchard
An important event in the 2009 Berlin Jazz Festival was the collaboration between trompeter/composer Terence Blanchard and the Deutsches Filmorchester.
CriticLatin Classics
A genre-bending concert combining tango, Cuban son music and virtuose pieces by Astor Piazzola was a highlight at the Munich Philarmonic Hall.
NPRRoger Hodgson, singer/songwriter of Supertramp, is an icon of pop music. Together with Scott Lawton and the Deutsches Filmorchester, Hodgson presented all the hits from his Supertramp years in Potsdam. This is a video of the entire concert.
shop amazonScott Lawton led a concert on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt with Omara Portuondo and Ibrahim Ferrer, two of the stars from the Buena Vista Social Club project in Havanna. This video documents the creation of this symphonic project. To prepare for this extraordinary event, Lawton travelled twice to Havanna to prepare the orchestrations and rehearse with Omara.
For over ten years, Lawton led the Deutsches Filmorchester in Germany’s most important live televised charity concert, the José Carreras Gala. Here he collaborated with countless artists, for example, Placido Domingo, Sting, Luciano Pavarotti, Herber Grönemeyer, Paul Potts, Josh Groban, Udo Lindenberg, and many more. David Garrett was a frequent guest; here is a video of a collaboration.
